Our Mission



To empower and motivate young learners to develop a positive sense of self through the use of developmentally appropriate practices. We concur with the early childhood philosophers Piaget and Vygotsky that children thrive and learn through play, and positive teacher interaction and facilitation. Through a combination of structured play, a balanced curriculum, and a warm, nurturing environment, our program is designed to help the children acquire the skills they need to become successful lifetime learners.



The Creative Curriculum®



A "HANDS-ON" APPROACH TO LEARNING WHERE THE CHILDREN EXPLORE AND LEARN IN SMALL AND LARGE GROUP SETTINGS, AS WELL AS INDIVIDUALLY.



Cognitive



The cognitive component of our curriculum encourages the development of reasoning, memory, and problem-solving solving skills. Children leverage these abilities to create an understanding of their world. Creating learning opportunities during our early childhood curriculum creates a foundation to enable success during preschool and elementary school.





Physical - Large Motor and Small Motor



Our physical curriculum enables a child to engage and interact with their physical environment. During infancy we focus on supporting essential large motor skills including rolling, sitting, and picking up objects. As children develop our curriculum integrates fine motor skills to enable activities of daily living including eating, writing, and tying shoelaces. Helping children achieve key motor milestones sets up our children for success as they grow.





Language and Literacy



Language and literacy development begins during the earliest phases of our curriculum. Children initially develop oral communication skills and then move on to recognizing letters, spelling, singing, and writing. Fostering strong oral and written communication skills sets our children up for success regardless of their setting.





Social & Emotional



The ABC Toon Town staff strives to create a safe and comfortable environment for all of our children to enable appropriate social and emotion development. The initial phases of social and emotional development include recognizing feeling and developing a peronal understanding. As children progress through our curriculum they begin to understand the feelings of others and develop meaningful relationships with their peers.





In partnership with Parents



We believe that parents are their child's first teacher, and we are here to facilitate and partner with them to ensure their child's needs are met. Communication, relationship-building, and promotion of family involvement is part of our core values at ABC Toon Town. In addition to providing parent education workshops, we provide several types of opportunities for our families to be actively involved in their child's growth and development at our program. Parents receive a monthly newsletter from the Director, as well as a newsletter from the child's classroom teacher, which details the theme for the month, planned activities and other pertinent information.


Parent/Teacher Conferences are held three times per year: mid-summer, early Fall and late Spring. Assessment and progress reports are sent home twice per year.


We are deeply engaged with our parents and maintain an active volunteer parent advisory committee. The parent advisory committee is a group of parent representatives committed to fostering a partnership between fellow parents, school staff, and administration with the goal of building a strong community within ABC Toon Town.
